Summer Football Activity

The SYFA is pleased to confirm that we are permitting football activity to continue throughout the summer.

We recognise that that the level of organised football in which clubs and leagues are able to participate and deliver will vary dependent on area and facility access, however as an organisation we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure as many children and young people as possible can play football in a safe environment.

Summer football may take the form of league fixtures, league cups, friendlies or one off competitions (subject to Scottish Government/ sportscotland guidance and in line with the Player Pathway). It has been a hugely challenging 13 months for the entire football community, and flexibility is absolutely crucial as we make the long-awaited return to match play.

We would remind teams that their leagues fixtures may finish in May, as is the standard course of action for 11 a side teams, and that in some areas, pitches will be closed over the summer months. A patient and flexible collective approach is crucial in these challenging times.

11 a Side Teams Only

SYFA membership, player registrations and insurance cover for the 2020/2021 season, expire on the 30th June 2021. Teams who wish to continue playing into July must be registered for the new 2021/2022 season in order to continue playing into July.

Thanks to the generous donation from Mr James Anderson and the Scottish Football Partnership Trust, membership is free of charge for the 21/22 season, meaning it is only the cost of insurance which has to be paid.

Registrations for the 2021/22 seasons will open on the 5th of May, giving teams 8 weeks to register if they wish to continue into July.  Once registered for the new season, teams will also be able to re-register players accordingly.

2002 and 1999 Age Group (19s & 21s)

We are currently working with league representatives, our insurance partners Sportsguard and the Scottish FA’s IT department, on a solution to allow 19s and 21s teams who will not be playing in the 2021/22 season to continue playing into July. As soon as we have any updates on this we will notify all relevant members accordingly.

Matches for children and young people can resume from 26th April, with updated protocols due to be published next week.

Kind regards,

The Board of the SYFA
